Jorge Villavicencio Grossmann, a Peruvian-born Brazilian composer who resides in the U.S.A, is a winner of awards such as a Fulbright Scholar grant, John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation fellowship, Fromm Music Foundation Commission (Harvard University), the Aaron Copland Award, Bogliasco Foundation Fellowship, New York Council for the Arts, and the Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His music has been heard around the world by orchestras and ensembles such as Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Sao Paulo Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, National Symphony Orchestra of Argentina, Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá, Peruvian National Symphony, New England Philharmonic, Aspen Sinfonia, Orquesta Juvenil Teresa Carreño (Venezuela), Kiev Camerata, Boston Musica Viva, Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, Da Capo Chamber Players, Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien®, Seattle Chamber Players, Talea Ensemble, ALEA III and the Borromeo, Arden, Amernet, Mivos and JACK quartets. He is Associate Professor of Composition at Ithaca College and Director of Composition at the Valencia International Performance Academy and Festival in Spain. Initially trained as a violinist, he holds a DMA in composition from Boston University, where he studied with Lukas Foss and John Harbison.
